Night 6
Night 6 - THE MIRACLE OF SHAKESPEARE
Dr. James Allen Jones
Artists have employed light as metaphor throughout time. Shakespeare scholar and actor, Dr. James Allen Jones, takes us into the mind of Shakespeare’s Othello. In this intimate moment, Dr. Jones draws a parallel between the miracle witnessed by Judah Maccabee in the beloved Hanukkah story, and the guidance given by the Duke of Venice to Othello in Shakespeare’s classic play. Both moments of revelation symbolized with the power of light.
Dr. James Allen Jones is a retired teacher, and administrator who worked for over six decades teaching the social sciences, comparative education and performance through Shakespeare. As a Fulbright Scholar, he taught at the University of Leeds, Yorkshire, England and stateside as an adjunct instructor at the University of Michigan (Detroit and Dearborn), Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan. He continues to lecture and perform Shakespeare.
Piece filmed and edited by Dr. Jones’ son Robert-David Jones. Jones is Reboot’s Southeast Michigan program consultant. Prior to Reboot, he helped to lead the Red Bull Arts Detroit residency program as project manager in 2015, and then again in 2018 as the public programs manager working collaboratively with Red Bull to design and execute public programs reaching diverse communities and engaging a wide range of ideas and forms of expression by identifying areas of need within the community - both local and global - to be served. In 2019 he was selected to represent Detroit as one of fifty fellows from seventeen countries at the Salzburg Global Seminar for Young Cultural Innovators.

IF YOU’VE FOUND LIGHT IN THESE GIFTS, GIVE YOUR OWN LIGHT
Reboot’s Give Light project re-imagines the concept of gift giving during Hanukkah as a time for art, community, and tikkun olam. This year, enjoy eight gifts of imagination from Reboot’s culture creators. We asked our community to share the music, art and ideas giving them light right now. We will share those gifts with you, in hopes you will find your own light and pass it along.
From December 10-18, we will offer quick bits of content to read, watch and hear - along with recommendations of places that need your light.
